About the Photographer
Retired pro, but a lifelong amateur at heart. Also a diver with decades of experience, and still addicted to underwater photography. I never go to water without a camera, to be able to record the beauties of the submerged Nature. Which, as you well know, covers the largest part of the Earth.
I will enjoy what our wonderful Earth offers to our eyes and mind for as long as I can.
Josip Kajetan Knezic, the famous Croatian road builder, has made his endowment in this classicist chapel of St. Mihovil above the "Csar Fountain". He made it in the period from 1833. do 1843. while modernizing the old Napoleon's Josephine road from Karlovac to Senj.
The fountain has an inscript in Latin, German and Croatian,"CESARSKO VRILLO FERNINAND I. CESAR AUSTRIJANSKI 1837 Naumio i izveo J. Cajet. Knesich C. Kr. major." (meaning, "Csar's Spring Ferdinand 1st of Austria. Contrived and performed by J. Kajetan Knezic, Csar's And King's Major"). In the village name Majorija, the "major" refers to him.
The fountain never ceased to amply deliver fresh, clean, cool water to whomsoever feels the thirst... and to many passing by, including me, it was de rigueur to make a short stop and replenish the water reserve for the trip. Photo by:
